Baphumelele Children's Home

Founded in 2001, Baphumelele Orphanage and Education Center in Cape Town provides a home and a school for children orphaned or abandoned because of AIDS. The children range in age from newborn to 19 years old. Most of the children are themselves HIV positive.

Baphumelele is run by women volunteers from the community who love the children as their very own. It is the only orphanage in Khayelitsha Township to accommodate children above the age of 8. Baphumelele has the capacity to offer 106 children a stable, loving and permanent home as well as providing ongoing medical attention and healthcare.

In addition, the education center supports over 230 children in the Township, and provides a much-needed meal service and a full education curriculum.

It is the generosity of businesses and individuals that keeps this incredibly special institution going, providing disadvantaged children with the hope and means to a life of fulfillment.
